WYBSL Hosting 2020 U9 Cal Ripken New England Regional Tournament

Planning Kickoff Meeting - 8PM Thursday, February 6th at the Stony Brook F&G Club

Dear WYBSL Families,

The WYBSL Board of Directors is very excited to announce that we’ll be hosting the U9 Cal Ripken New England Regional Tournament in July!  Not only is it an honor to host this prestigious annual tournament, but it’s a tremendous opportunity for players from Westford to play competitive baseball against the best teams in New England as well as for our league to showcase its great baseball program and community.  Last year, WYBSL had teams from the U8 and U12 divisions advance to their respective New England Regional Tournaments. All of the players, families, and coaches will attest to it being an incredible experience which generated memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.  As a result of those successes, WYBSL was asked to host this year’s U9 tournament and we’ve accepted!

Preliminary Details

The tournament will run Friday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 22.  The first day will consist of a players and coaches reception with a meal provided by the host site, Opening Ceremonies during the afternoon, and a skills competition with prizes during the late afternoon and early evening.  Games will then start on Saturday and last through Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. It will be a fun and exciting week of baseball!

Call for Volunteers

We’ve already had a number of volunteers step forward, but in order to make this tournament a success for both the league and community, we need your help with both planning and running the tournament.  Some of the responsibilities as a host site include:

  • Providing a meal for the players and coaches reception

  • Having a PA announcer and an official scorer for each game

  • Coordinating w/ local hotels and restaurants for discounted room rates and / or meals

  • Preparing the fields before and maintaining them during the tournament

  • Procuring supplies and prizes for the Friday skills competitions

  • Coordinating the design and sale of tournament shirts, apparel, and other items which will be a significant source of fundraising dollars for WYBSL

  • Various other items

Please contact both Andrew Jones ( ) and Jason Wells ( ) to volunteer and learn more details!

A planning kickoff meeting will be held at 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 6th at the Stony Brook Fish and Game Association (address below) to get the planning process rolling.  We hope to see you there!
